Priscilla Queen of the Desert (The Musical)- London, Summer 2010

Should you see it? Abso-freaking-lutely!

So, I first saw this musical production, based on the 1994 Australian box office hit comedy drama The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, in London in the Summer of 2010 at the Palace Theater during my vacation in this fabulous city.  I must say, it has got to be one of the best recent musicals I’ve seen in years, Wicked being the last one I thought was simply amazing.  In this production, which is set to hit the Broadway circuit sometime this year (March 20, 2011) with the likes of the one and only the Divine Miss M (Bette Middler, or at least that was the rumor) the casting, the costumes and the technical merits, are without doubt anything but perfection.  This outrageously spectacular musical opened in 2006 in Sydney, Australia before traveling to New Zeland, the United Kingdom and Canada. Quite frankly, I must say I enjoyed the stage production by far more than its original celluloid version.  I guess it has everything to do with the exquisite experience of having your emotions vibrate to the elixir of the live music and outstanding vocal performances by the cast, as well as the collective and synchronized laughter and euphoric moments the plot stimulates in the audience.  I hope the Broadway version is as engaging and emotional as the London show I was so fortunate to see.  If you’re in the Big Apple and see this on Broadway, grab your sparkling stilettos, a boa and your BFF’s, because this is one adventure you won’t want to embark on your own!
